BRIDGEPORT, C.T. (WPIX) -- A bite from a K-9 police dog has led a Connecticut state trooper to sue Bridgeport and the city's police department.
Trooper Joseph Diaz says he suffered significant and permanent injuries on Jan. 14 when he was attacked by the police dog while on a routine traffic stop. The lawsuit claims Bridgeport Police Officer Heriberto Rodriguez failed to control the dog, named Sampson.
"There was a traffic stop and the officer who had the dog came to assist and the dog came after Mr. Diaz," the state trooper's attorney Laura Mooney told The Connecticut Post.
The lawsuit says the 26-year-old trooper suffered injuries to his left hand when he was attacked by the police dog when state and local officers stopped a vehicle on a city street. The trooper is reportedly asking for more than $15,000 in compensation for his injuries.
