PITTSBURGH -- State police are stopping and examining commercial trucks and trailers in a routine safety check of area roadways.
They set up a traffic stop along Route 65 and Beaver Avenue in order to make sure commercial drivers are alert and following safety requirements.
“We are looking for seatbelt violations on the truckers because it's mandatory that they wear their seatbelts,” said Sgt. Dan Connolly, of the Pittsburgh police.
Connolly said officers are also checking for fatigued drivers who may have been traveling all night as well as those drivers who appear to have been taking stimulant drugs to stay awake.
Police did not say how many violations they have found during the routine stops. | |
