Trooper shoots man after threat, Missouri Highway Patrol says
Nodaway County Sheriff’s Department had received a call Friday morning about a man who was running between homes and asked the patrol for assistance, according to a press release. Two troopers joined a deputy and two Maryville public safety officers at the scene.
The man had broken into a house and was reported to be in the kitchen holding what appeared to be a single-shot rifle.
The officers entered the kitchen and a trooper repeatedly ordered the man to drop the weapon. Instead, the man raised the weapon, and the trooper, fearing for his life, shot the man in the arm, according to the press release.
The man was taken to St. Francis Hospital. The trooper was placed on routine administrative leave pending an investigation by the patrol’s division of drug and crime control.
The man’s condition was unknown.
