NJ State Police Dispel Ticket Crackdown Rumors
by KYW's David Madden
There was an e-mail making the rounds, warning of a major crackdown on drivers who exceed the speed limit in New Jersey. The response from state police might surprise you.
The e-mail suggests 50 state troopers are assigned to major highways across the state under a mandate to write at least 3 tickets an hour to raise $9-million for the state.
Sergeant Steven Jones with the New Jersey State Police says, "we love this e-mail."
It has surfaced a few times over the last three years or so, and once talk radio gets a hold of things like this, it can make you believe the rumors.
For the record, there’s not a specially assigned speed contingent, although the mere rumor does do them a favor.
"When people hear that there is a speeding ticket frenzy out there, they slow down. They’re afraid of that speeding ticket."
If a trooper on normal patrol does catch you speeding, you will get a ticket. And that's no rumor.
