State trooper injured in traffic-stop crash on Stevenson

An Illinois state trooper was taken to the hospital this morning after his patrol car was hit during a traffic stop on the Stevenson Expressway, state police said.
The four-vehicle crash occurred shortly before 6 a.m. on southbound Interstate Highway 55 near Ashland Avenue, police said. In addition to the patrol car, two sport-utility vehicles and another car reportedly were involved.
The trooper and another person were taken to Stroger Hospital and Rush University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. All southbound lanes except the left remained blocked off in the area of the accident as of 6:45 a.m., state police said.
No further information was immediately available.
