BATON ROUGE -- Seventy-four graduates of the State Police Training Academy have officially begun their new careers.
The academy announced Friday that the cadets had graduated and taken their oaths of office. They will be filling positions around the state. State police say that 50 of the 74 new troopers will be filling new positions created last year by Gov. Bobby Jindal and the Legislature. The others will fill existing open positions.
In the New Orleans area, 11 graduates are assigned to State Police Troop B in Kenner, and 10 new cadets are assigned to Troop L in Mandeville. Troop C, based in Gray near Houma, will get eight new graduates.
