New Orleans police are searching for a 2-year-old boy who was allegedly abducted by three men wielding AK-47s around 11:30 p.m. Friday while he and his father were standing at the corner of Jackson Avenue and Brainard Street in Central City.
Ja' Shawn Powell has black hair, brown eyes, and was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt, blue jeans and black shoes. The boy is about 2-1/2 feet tall and weighs about 48 pounds, with a medium complexion, brown eyes and short hair. He has a stain on his front teeth and a small scar on the middle of his back.
Powell's father told investigators that the three suspects forced him to the ground at gunpoint, took his son and fled in a dark, 2000-model Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon with black tinted windows and shiny paint, Janssen Valencia of the New Orleans Police Department said in a news release issued mid-morning Saturday.
There were no license plates on the vehicle, which was last seen traveling north on Jackson Avenue, Valencia said.
The suspects are described as African-American men, about 29 years old, with shoulder-length dread locks and standing between 5-foot-10 and 6-feet tall, Valencia said.
State Police have issued an Amber Alert for the missing boy.
