| Trooper - State of Massachusetts, MA Position Type Trooper Position Title Trooper Requirements/Overview
Candidates for appointment must meet the following requirements: High school diploma or G.E.D Ability to obtain a valid Massachusetts firearms license At least 21 years old and less than 35 years old by April 1, 2009 Must pass a thorough background investigation prior to employment. No person who has been convicted of a felony or any offense punishable under M.G.L. Chapter 94C (drug law violations); or has been convicted of a misdemeanor and has been confined to any jail or house of correction as punishment for said crime, will be considered for employment. Must pass a physical fitness test Must pass a medical examination Must pass a psychological examination Must successfully complete swimming requirements Must be a United States Citizen upon appointment to the State Police Academy Must have a Massachusetts driver's license prior to graduating from the Academy Must be a Massachusetts resident prior to graduating from the Academy Must not smoke any tobacco product.

This examination is being held to establish an eligibility list from which to fill Police Officer vacancies in civil service cities and towns and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and in non-civil service Trooper positions in the Massachusetts State Police Department. The eligibility list may also be used to fill police officer vacancies in non-civil service jurisdictions.
Applicants will have the option to have their exam results apply to one or both of the resulting eligible lists, Police Officer and Trooper, respectively.
Before applying it is recommended that applicants read the entire examination announcement for information specific to the Police Officer and Trooper tests because requirements and preferences for the positions differ.
Applicants are encouraged to be careful when they file their application for the exam because you will not be allowed to change your choice after the exam is held on April 25, 2009 and that there are no fee refunds unless the exam is cancelled by the Human Resources Division.
